Seminar on “Leveraging GI for Economic Growth, Cultural Preservation, and Global Recognition” & GI Excellence Awards – Gujarat Chapter

The power of Geographical Indications (GIs) to drive economic growth, preserve culture, and enhance global recognition took centre stage at a landmark seminar and awards ceremony held on 18 July 2025, organised by Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) and IPTSE.

The seminar explored how GIs connect products to their geographical origin, highlighting the link between a product’s unique qualities and its place of origin. Discussions highlighted the role of GIs in safeguarding cultural heritage, securing international recognition, and enabling products to compete in global markets, while also examining the challenges associated with obtaining GI status.

Esteemed guests from the Indian Patent Office, GNLU, GUJCOST, EDII, SIDBI, WIPO, and leading universities enriched the dialogue with diverse perspectives.

Malyashree Sridharan, Associate Partner at LexOrbis, was a speaker in the panel discussion, sharing insights on strengthening GI protection and global market strategies. Team members Neha Ramani and Sengunthar Prabhakaran Bhaskaran from the Gujarat office also attended, engaging with experts and innovators driving the GI movement forward.
