First meet of AIPLA’s ‘Women in IP’ hosted by LexOrbis in New Delhi

New Delhi, June – 9 , 2014: LexOrbis hosted the First chapter of “Women in IP” meet initiated by AIPLA (American Intellectual Property Law Association). The meet was aimed to provide networking opportunities to women practicing Intellectual Property laws whether in-house or otherwise. This AIPLA event was held across the world in 23 countries and is the 8th Annual event of Women in IP in the US and many other countries but first in India. Manisha Singh Nair, the partner-in-charge at LexOrbis and a member of AIPLA, who took the initiative to bring this chapter to India welcomed over 50 women IP professional at today’s meet held at the India Habitat Centre.

The meet was graced by senior panellists including Ms. Premlata, Asst. Registrar of Trade Marks, New Delhi, Dr.Usha Rao, Asst. Controller of Patents at the Patent Office, New Delhi & Ms. Pratibha Singh, Senior Advocate.

The key speakers shared views with the audience on the importance of women in the field of IP. Ms.Premlata commented, “Women face prejudice and differential treatment at the work place in India being conditioned by a society which has been taught to look at women differently. We should all pledge to stand by and for each other to further empower us in our careers.”

Ms. Pratibha Singh further added, “Women in IP”meet is a great initiative taken by AIPLA in association with LexOrbis. I would like for all of us present here to reach out to each other embrace this cause. We can all help and grow from this concept.”

The event was linked with the AIPLA through a video and the President of AIPLA welcomed all attendees.The purpose of the event was to provide an informal forum for women in IP law to come together on a single evening to celebrate women in the profession and to provide an opportunity for localized networking, mentoring, and education.
